Dreamer

Hi, Hello, Good Morning,

Speed skating is not unlike operating a Steadicam.
First, you have to balance the rig with the camera, and all of its accessories, not unlike the sharpening, bending, and rockering of the skate blades, depending on the specialization and desire of the skater.
Next, you must ensure that you yourself are in balance with you. Can you stand up? Yes? Good. You may continue.
You put on the Steadicam, and suddenly your perspective on everything changes. You are able to move the camera in ways that were never before possible. You put your feet in the skate boots, and you can suddenly move in a way that is totally foreign to the human psyche. A type of movement that is strange, but yet unspeakably glorious in some way.
Then, you yourself must be in balance with the steadicam, the two parts coming together in the amalgamation of flesh and machine - hovering mere inches from your hip, anxiously awaiting the next command. Skates moulded so perfectly to your feet that it feels as if there were no separation between you and the blade, floating effortlessly over the ice. Not unlike when you fly in dreams...
And finally, you must know precisely what you are doing. What is the shot? What is the headroom? What is the story? What is the distance I must skate? In how much time do I want to do it? Then, you urge this mechanized extension of you to do it with you, with inhuman precision, and great artistry. Not commanding, not yielding - Urging.
This is going to be a very fun bunch of years.

Love,
